The Whitehouse spending tax dollars to write to The Onion
Your tax dollars… Hard at work! Yeah!
Citing the United States Code, Mr. Dixton wrote that the seal “is not to be used in connection with commercial ventures or products in any way that suggests presidential support or endorsement.” Exceptions may be made, he noted, but The Onion had never applied for such an exception. The Onion was amused. “I’m surprised the president deems it wise to spend taxpayer money for his lawyer to write letters to The Onion,” Scott Dikkers, editor in chief, wrote to Mr. Dixton. He suggested the money be used instead for tax breaks for satirists.
Protecting the Presidential Seal. No Joke.
Not sure if everyone has had a chance to check out The Onion. It’s a great way to get a humorous take on some of today’s current events. I’m sure the first time reader might be duped into thinking the “news” on The Onion is actual content backed with realistic facts. Hopefully long time readers would not mistake the use of the Presidential Seal as symbolism that the President supports / sponsors The Onion in any way shape or form. I can’t decide what’s money well spent… Tax dollars on the war, or tax dollars to foot the lawyer fees regarding The Onion’s use of the Seal.
