How-To: Pair your EV-DO ready Samsung A920 with Windows 2000 / XP

Posted in Howto, Tech by Derek at 12:00 pm

UPDATE 4/18: I’ve posted up an OSX / Bluetooth pairing tutorial here.

After suffering a recent power outage, I’ve found a new motivation to pair the Sprint Samsung A920 with Windows XP in order to access the high speed EV-DO network. Due to the fact that I have yet to find a decent write-up to explain the steps to pair the two, I felt a contribution was in order. I appologize ahead of time, the post may does cater specifically towards Sprint A920 users. Before attempting, please make sure to keep a fresh backup or enable Windows System Restore in the event of a hosed installation.

  • Point your browser to the Sprint Software Downloads page select the appropriate operating system from the drop down menu [Windows XP].
  • Click Sprint PCS Connection Manager for Phone as Modem/USB Cables and download the Install_MSI_Sprint.exe. Run the installer from the desktop. I unchecked the ‘Bytemobile Optimization’ software* option. I tried the installation with and my Wireless Zero configuration turned into crud. You’ll find yourself staring at a few “The software you are installing has not passed Windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. Go ahead and click ‘Continue Anyway’.
  • Before starting the connection manager, make sure that your data profile is configured on your handset. Go to ‘Settings > Power Vision > Update Profile’.
  • Start the Sprint PCS Connection Manager and wait for the program to initialize. The window will prompt you to connect your handset via USB. Doing so will prompt Windows to install the necessary drivers for the handset.
  • Once your handset is recognized and connected, click ‘Go’ and you will be logged on to the EV-Do network. Your Sprint PCS Vision username and password must be set from within your handset. If you have not created the necessary PCS Vision settings, you will be disconnected. New subscribers are automatically assigned a username@sprintpcs.com. Unfortunately, not all users have their PCS Vision password. You must log into your account settings at Sprint.com and navigate to ‘My Personal Information > Power Vision Password’. Once you’ve created your password, allow some time for your handset to receive the update and try connecting again.

That’s all there is to it. You will now have an alternative option for accessing the net in times of crisis. Now if I could only figure out how to uncripple the bluetooth software included with the A920 to pair a wireless Bluetooth connection between handset and computer. Check your EV-DO coverage.

*From what I’ve gathered Bytemobile is an optimization utility for dial-up mobile phone users. The software may be included to optimize net connections but any attempt to install the software destroyed my defualt Wi-Fi connections.

So I have a ?. I just got my a920, I downloaded the connection manager for it, but how the hell do you get mp3 on the damn phone. I Know you can download through sprint vision, but I have a hefty mp3 libarary on my computer and I would like to be able to share that on my phone. This is been a week long ordeal for me, if you can help please DROP ME A LINE. thanks

  2. do you have a transflash sd adapter or card reader? from what i hear if you create a /MUSIC folder within a /MEDIA folder on the transflash card the a920 will detect the tracks.

Very helpful. I’m considering purchasing this phone and do plan to use it as a modem. Some spec sheets say you need to purchase a data kit (cable and software). Samsung says they have none. Spring doesn’t sell anything. I’d already grabbed the connection software. So… is there another cable, other than the USB that is necessary and if so, where did you get yours?
Thanks for taking the time to post the instructions!
    Lenora

  4. the a920 included a usb cable for connecting to your computer. no connectivity kit is required other than the connection manager linked above {provided by sprint]. the installtion includes the necessary drivers to use the phone as a modem. if you try plugging the handset into the pc without installing the drivers, windows will recognize the phone as a cdma device. the phone is useless without the connection manager and drivers.

  5. LenPorcella

How simple! :-) That’s how it was on my old 2g except that the software hasn’t worked since WIN95. :-0 Thanks again, for your help!

Thanks all for the help. I enjoy the 920 very much, it a good phone with killer features.

Good tips. I started out in December, paid $150 for a data connection card and got an $80/month data line, unlimited. This seemed good until I dropped my laptop on the card sticking out. Now what? I didn’t want to pay $300 for a new card (what sucks is if I had waited, my first card would have been free with all the rebates!) and Sprint said I could terminate the line, with a $150 early termination fee. Luckily i had just purchased the A920 and realized it had data capability on the 3g/ EvDo network. My old 8200 could do that somewhat, but I knew that previously they would send you a big whopping bill for data useage if you go over the 10mb limit for latent useage.
So I called Sprint and when they found out I wanted to cancel my data line they put me through to Steven (must be a supervisor or upper-level CSR) who was extremely helpful! We canceled the line and added “Power Vision Attachable Plan” which includes UNIMITED data and also the power vision which I had been paying $30 for. All for, get this, $49.99!!!!
So my net savings are $60 a month, and he even gave me free text messaging for a year and waived the connection/upgrade fee ($36) for my “trouble”. What started out as a really, really bad day turned out to be a blessing. I’ll save over $1500 over the remainder of my agreement due to having this great A920 phone. And yes, the speeds are identical to speeds I was getting with the Novatel wireless data card. The only things I lose are talking on the phone while browsing (heh, nobody wants to talk to me anyway) and battery life on the phone is limited. I came across your blog looking for a data cable that has the 2 pins to get power off the USB cable to solve this.

  8. savagemyth

FYI anyone looking for that cable (USB data cable that can power off the USB bus and save your battery), I found one for $18.15 at:

    http://www.yourwirelesssource.com/shop/5/accessories/model/261603

  9. thanks for the link to the powered cable saveage. i was hurting with the battery drain when using the handset for data.

  10. karen

my dell laptop isn’t recognizing the SD card when i insert it into the drive. do i need any kind of software from sprint, or is this all my computer’s fault??

  11. alex cd

Karen Press The Windows Key and kept it held in, then press ‘Paude/break’. A Menu should popup click the ‘harware’ tab and then ‘Device manager’ If you have any yellow exclamation marks then post again.

Make sure the card is the right way up because sd and mmc cards are identical, but reverse side up to each other if i make any sense!

  12. Tim C

I bought my A920 about 3 weeks ago and just now have tried to use it as a modem by using the USB cable and Connection Manager software. I was consistently getting a ‘bad’ username/password error, even after resetting my vision password online and waiting the obligatory 20 minutes. I reloaded my vision profile on the phone and everything was working great on the phone. But I was still getting the same error on the connection manager. So I called Sprint and the Tech Support guy said that I had to pay an ADDITIONAL

  13. tIM c

sorry… hit Enter by mistake!! Anyway, to continue, he said I had to pay an additional $39.99 per month for the ‘Phone as Modem’ plan. He said this was just implemented January 1st. Anyone else experiencing this issue? I was really ticked off by that considering I’m already paying for the EVDO service. Please advise if you can.

    Thanks!

  14. tim: not sure if that sounds right. what plan on your currently on. if the handset is evdo ready (which it is). i was under the impression that customers need only call in and request the provision.

  15. karen (again)

when i try to open the drive with the micro flash card in it, windows tells me it needs to format the disk. when i try to format, though, i get a message saying that windows was unable to complete the format. what gives?

  16. sarah

    any links for bell users?

  17. Rob

Hello there, I was wondering if you can use the mp3 ringtones from the memory card or not? Can you somehow transfer using the USB cable?

  18. as far as i know, and from what i’ve gathered doing research online, the usb cable is completely worthless doing anything outside of pairing the device for evdo usage. i have not had a chance to test this, but i’ve read that by creating a MEDIA file on the transflash car, the handset should be able to locate the audio files and use them.

the alternative is to use the rumpkin uploader for sending files to your handset.

  19. Richard

when I attempt to install the samsung usb driver (for a920) the win logo testing does not allow me to continue anyways, it only has ok and it stops the installation.

any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  20. that’s strange. you don’t have a button that says continue anyways?

  21. same phone but unrelated topics.

know of any car chargers that plug in just like the usb cable? why they would have a home charger (one typically being used when the phone is NOT being used) click into place, and yet have a car charger (most commonly used while the phone IS being used) not click in….. sounds pretty stupid.

any clue how to get it to use the memory card for memo pad also? i need more than 9 ’sheets’ for crying out loud my 2 year old vx6000 gives me 20!

according to my research you are correct…. the cable is pretty much useless, the bluetooth is also ‘castraited’ (Cnet.com said exactly that) so that you can’t connect it to a pc, only to a headset. I dumped verizon cause i thought they were always out to get you….. now it looks like sprint is even worse!

    http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/faq/index.php?Topic=phones

I think it lists the external screen’s info, pretty sure the internal screen is actually 262K colors

question, how bad would this beat a 56k connection? i was looking at that 15 dollar DSL too how bout on a $/kb comparison between the three?

wonder how long it will be till we get hacked phone firmwares like we have with some other electronics.

  22. Riky Diky

hey, is it possible to save ringers into the memory card? i know u can save songs into the memory card, but i wanna save ringers to the memory card as well

  23. bwaclawc

I have an A920. I followed the above instructions to use my phone for internet on the computer. I updated the profile, after setting the username and password at sprint.com/personal Info. I have the “Sprint Power Vision Ultimate Pack” on my plan. I installed the connection manager, and the drivers. Everything went fine. I run the connection manager and it says “connect phone”. I connect the phone, and nothing happens. I went to control panel/phone and modems. I can see that it’s connected, but if I try to Querry the modem, it says it’s not connected and to check com settings. It’s on COM3 which should be fine. I’m a computer tech, and had no problems with my old sprint phone on the 3G network. I can usually figure these things out, but this is stumping me. I don’t know why it’s not working.

    Any advice/help is appreciated.

  24. bwaclawc

huh? Are you talking to me? I replied to the “How-To: Pair your EV-DO ready Samsung A920 with Windows 2000 / XP” write up. What the hell are you talking about? This is a waste of time and no help so far. Idiot.

  25. bwaclaws… I would like to congratulate you on replying to a ‘ping’. ;) And no, I’m sorry but I do not have a remedy to your situation. You could try going into the hardware manager and deleting the modem. Then do a scan for any changes from the menu. Windows will then rediscover you modem allowing you to plug in the handset and search for the necessary drivers.

  26. Jasmine

Could you explain this to me… “do you have a transflash sd adapter or card reader? from what i hear if you create a /MUSIC folder within a /MEDIA folder on the transflash card the a920 will detect the tracks.” I am interested in taking music off my computer and putting it in my a920. Im not up with the tech these days and need some walking through, please : )

  27. Tim

Does anyone get phone as a modem access with only their power vision package? I was told by sprint that I needed to pay for the phone as a modem plan, which I did, to get acess. Not sure it is worth it since I really only want to use it thru my pocketPC.

  28. Andy

    Jasmine,

You’ll need to expand the phones memory using a SD Micro transflash card and card reader that will plug into your computer’s USB port and act like a disk drive. Then create a “Media” folder with a “Music” folder in it that will contain all your music and drag and drop your music into it. Then you’ll plug the memory card back into the phone and access it through the “Media player” on the menu.

My phone came with a 32MB card which will hold about 6 songs so you’ll need to get a bigger card - may as well max it out with the 512MB card. It looks like the SD Micro card prices are dropping - I paid $48 for a 512 MB card with a card reader a couple of weeks ago and now you can get the same for about $35.

    Good luck,

    –Andy

  29. Brad

The a920 can handle a 1 gb trans flash card, im using it. I got it off ebay for 35 bucks and it came with a USB drive, but the catch was 25 bucks for shipping. Search for this SanDisk 1GB 1 GB TF Trans Flash Micro SD Card + T Drive. Looks like the price has dropped alot since i bought mine.
Im pretty computer savy and I’ve had no luck getting my cell to connect as a modem. I installed the connection manager. Unchecked the bit optimize option. restarted. Then started the connect manager on the display is says to connect phone i do that. The phone says that is it being used as a usb modem. But nothing happens on my compter… Ive tried to do this while im not connected to the internet.
If anyone can help me out. Im using a PC with xp Pro.
Also someone above was indicating that their cd card reader for their dell isn’t work. I have the same problem. …….. :( It happened to me because I re-installed my OS. Ive spent alot of time with dell trying to fix this with no luck. So good luck and if anyone knows anything about this too help me out ppppplease ..
    Thanks
    Brad

hey are they any software that i can download for the samsung a920 that will allow you transfer ringtones and games trew the usb cable

  31. Art

I was looking around the net yesterday, and I learned the usb cable is not for transfering data in/out of the phone. It is for some modem utility.

To transfer data in/out, you have to use the Transcard, (put it inside an SD/USB device, and plug that into your computer).

  32. erich

Just hung up with Sprint Technical Support, and in order to use the phone as a modem, you need to purchase the “Phone as a Modem Plan” for $39.99/month. Crap.

  33. Enzo

EVDO- using as a modem for my laptop.

Per Sprint Tech Support…when the sales rep told me i could use the phone as a modem with vision plan for $20 bucks just like my old Sanyo phone on non-EVDO connection,,,,they were WRONG!

I must add an additional module for $40/month that only includes using phone as a modem and still keep $20 Vision pack for everthing else.

TOTAL CRAP!!! I do love the dang phone though so probably won’t take it back in the 14 day free look period and just forgo modem capability for now.

    Any solutions are welcome,
    -Enzo

  34. aaron

I am wondering if i have mp3 in the sd card but i wont let me put it as a ringtone, how can i do that,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,thx

  35. aaron, I found a way to make your mp3 play as a ringtone.
    Here’s what I did.
convert the file to a .m3u format, if I remember correctly. And also you will want to chop the song file to be no longer than 29 seconds.
next upload the .m3u file to the web, it must be someplace that your cell phone browser is capable of going.
next browse to the site on your cell phone browser that contains the file link to the uploaded .m3u
click on the link to the file, and tell you phone to download it. Your phone should then automatically place the song clip into your ringers section.

There may be other ways, but this is how I did it.
    btw, I’m using a samsung A920

    -Static

  36. aaron,
CORRECTION to my previous post concerning:
turning an mp3 into a ringtone.
I just double checked what I had done before.
You need to change the .mp3 file into an _m4a
    file, NOT a .m3u sorry.
remember to clip the file down to 29 seconds or less. Also I would not leave any spaces in the filename.

next upload the _m4a file to the web, it must be someplace that your cell phone browser is capable of going.
next browse to the site on your cell phone browser that contains the file link to the uploaded _m4a file
click on the link to the file, and tell you phone to download it. Your phone should then automatically place the song clip into your ringers section.

Here’s how I went about doing this the easy way:
I created an account with a website formally called 3gupload.com but they just recently changed their name to mixxer.com
Your account comes with a personal locker, where you can upload stuff to, then access it from your phone. But the best part about it is that when you upload a .mp3 file to your locker, they will give you the option of having your file automatically converted into a _m4a format and clipped down to 29seconds or less if you specify.
Then you just use your web browser on your phone to open up your locker from the site, and click on the file to download it. Your phone, like I said, will automatically place it in the ringers list.
I hope this helps everyone out.

    btw, I’m using a samsung A920

Or… You can use the following URL(s)
    http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/
    http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/

They’ll send the mp3 to your phone for use as a ringer.

  38. Taylor

OKAY—totally didn’t work for me. I suck at these things.

So, I ran the program, plugged in my phone, then it said, “New Hardware Found” but it couldn’t find the software or CD to install the driver. Can someone please help!??!

    THANKS!

so i’ve successfully connected my a920 to my laptop. it recognizes it, and it’s all fine and dandy. but i’m concerned about the bill, lol. currently i do have the unlimited internet access on my phone, which allows me to download music and use the video/tv feature. is this the same as using it as a data modem for notebooks? or do i have to shell out more money for that option? i’d rather do this than pay 45/month for a pcmcia card that will sap way more power from my battery. thanks for any info. i’m with bell.

  40. JohnE

Just used my sprint a920 ‘phone as modem’ in Corvallis, Oregon. Works just a tad smidgeon slower than my DSL/wifi.

Good enough to ditch the land line should my test-out period stay this good. Thanks for putting up the link to the sprint downloads. Finding it on the sprint website the normal way wasn’t working for me.

  41. allan

well, i contacted bell about prices. apparently it works to 12.00 Canadian per 1MB of data. That being said, I used 0.24MB just trying to view msn.ca

They do have deals, and she said it was the same price as a wireless pcmcia card. For Bell Canada it was 25.00 for 4MB, and up 100.00 for 25MB. I don’t see myself adding additional fees to my phone bill, especially that steep, but it’s nice to know that in an emergency, I can use my A920 for a modem. Definitely a great tool.

  42. allan

    my mistake. it’s 25.00 cdn for 4MB, 100.00 for 250.MB.

    http://www.bell.ca/shopping/en_CA_AB/PrsShpWls_RtpIRPList.page?wlcs_catalog_category_id=InternetRatePlans 45.00 for 8MB

here’s a link for the Bell Canada people.

  43. DMingo

You don’t have to pay for the $40 charge all you do is hit menu, then go to display. hit 0 and for the fld serv code type in 040793 then go to NA1 and toggle modem to OFF yes OFF and then plug in to comp with USB drivers and make a new connection using the samsung CDMA modem and then use NO user account or password and it will log on and it will work been using it 4 2 months and no charge and do not i mean DO NOT use the SPrint connection manager i think that counts ur kilobytes and just log on using the Connect thing on the connection you made and it should work

  44. Greg

I just bought a Samsung A920 phone and i have put mp3’s on it from my computer. I am now wondering if it is possible to set any of these songs as my ringtone and if so, how do you do it?

  45. Rich

    DMingo,
What number do you dial when you do that setup? #777. Please advise. Thanks..

  46. Rich

    DMingo,
I think I got it to work but it seems to be using the Sprint Connection Manager though but did not give me error message earlier. Am I being charged additional since it is going through Sprint Connection manager?

  47. Rich

Thanks DMingo. It worked great. If you make change to the settings it allows you to use the Sprint Connection Manager but I don’t know if you are being charged during that time. The new connection worked great 230kbps. Thanks a bunch.

  48. George

Hey i just bought a samsung a920 and i copied songs to the memory card. does anyone know how to make those songs the ringtone? if you know please help me my email is soccergmb@comcast.net

  49. For 51 days I’ve had nothing but trouble with an A920 and using it as a modem via. Bluetooth or USB under Win, OS X, and Linux. This issue has existed with 3 920’s, so it’s not a device issue. In total, I’ve spent *days* on the phone with Vision advanced tech support, to no avail.

Anytime I connect phone as modem, afterwards I cannot access features from the handset that require web access (HTTP errors 403 and 1012), including updating the vision profile. If more than a few minutes passes between using PAM, the modem connects to the network, but I receive a user/pass error and can’t get back online.

This error condition is 100% repeatable, but all Vision ATS can come up with is to keep swapping the phone for another.

The only solution I’ve been given thus far is to restore the 920 to it’s factory defaults (##RTN#), reprogram, and grab the Vision profile. This works every time, but of course wipes out everything in the phone (contacts, etc), rendering the phone all but useless as far as I am concerned.

Another issue is that once the phone is paired with whatever computer I’m using, if I reboot the computer or turn off the 920, the phone always wants to re-pair with the computer. This is 100% repeatable. If I pair a headset with the phone, it remains paired through power cycles of the 920 and/or headset until I have to clear the phone to get back online.

Of course Sprint is blaming me for this issue. Something was added to their notes, so any tech I get now knows to abandon support with respect to this ongoing problem.

Only two trouble tickets were created, both of which I was told were supposed to be bumped up to a Sprint network engineer.

Both tickets ended up closed prematurely when some idiot called to follow up the ticket. Each wanted me to take the battery out for two mins (yeah, that’ll fix it), but knew nothing about troubleshooting past that, and each moron closed the ticket saying I needed a new phone.

Since the second phone I’ve been saying that the issue has to do with my account, that something in their backend is screwed up, like a flag or setting, since it seems that I am the only one experiencing this issue. Supposedly they’ve ‘rebuilt’ my account almost every day for the past 7 weeks, to no avail.

Anyone with anything on this, help me out. I have a Verizon phone with data also, which works fine, but there are two areas in which I spend alot of time that Sprint is the only carrier, and even 1XRTT is better than nothing…

    Thanks,

    mBm

  50. Dmingo

Yeah just use the other connection i wasn’t willing to risk being charged so i don’t use it.

  51. Yabbah

This phone is the best. I access high speed wireless anywhere. Have converted movies and put on transflash card. (Napolean Dynamite was only 37 megs). Just put your vids in memory cards Media folder. I have made my own music vids and put on also in 3gp format. bunch of free encoders like Super that will do that. Phone does everything, like a mini video IPOD. \Trust me phone does everything.
Even got free GPS NAV software on it.

  52. AndyCandy

YABBAH: Would you please care to share where I can obtain the FREE GPS NAV Software?

    Thanks

  53. Stacksofwax

YES! YES!…Please explain this GPS NAV thing!

    How do you do this?

  54. dailylama

mustBme, I have spent the past 6 months having similar issues. At one time There were three (3) vision usernames associated with my one (1) cell phone number. I would have one username (NAI) on my phone and another on the sprint web site with a third showing up on the tech’s screen. I would get 403 when trying to access the web, 1012 when trying to update the vision profile. After following tech’s directions (read straight from the screen even after I inform them these steps have already been taken over and over again) every time I call, the power vision gets disable on the phone and when trying to enable power vision I get 2048 network busy. Sprint’s response? “You’re in a bad area.” BAD AREA ATLANTA! Yes, same error all over Atlanta, from the Airport all the way to Snellville. How’s that for bad area / coverage.

So, 7 days ago a fourth vision user name was created, we did a ##RTN#, manually set the vision data and the phone data (MSID and such). $400.00 for a phone from which you can’t even back up your own data. the day Sprint treats their phones as what they are, brittle little computers and let their customers back up personal / application data, perhaps we, the customers won’t have to sit through over 80 hours so far this year just for our phone to work properly.

I was informed by the tech he would delete the other vision user names and all would be well. It worked. I got online with my new user name. We said our good byes. Next day I hooked the phone up to my laptop, using the usb cable and the connection manager software. It wouldn’t regognize the phone as a modem. Back to the phone for another 8 hour stint with my heroes. Errors, 403, 1020 and 2048… what? am I repeating myself… why, read the notes, why don’t you :) Yesterday I saw the same user name on the web site as it shows in my phone (under ##data#). Vision works as it should both using phone, phone as modem (both usb and bluetooth), something I pay $40 for every month. This after another ##RTN#, wiping out all my data including downloaded ringtones never to be recovered.

    Lessons learned:
    It’s not a phone, it’s a pc.
If your phone’s software won’t update (error 1012) do a ##RTN#, don’t waste your time with anything else. Don’t do it by yourself though unless you have all your stuff written down. Be on the phone with sprint while it’s being done or go to the store to have it done

P.S. 70% of the time I spend on the phone with Sprint is hold time. 20% is explaining to a customer no-service tech what I need (or in most cases what I don’t need to do for the 100th time). 7% of the time is spent rejecting a barrage of offers how to spend even more money on an item THAT DOESN’T WORK!. The rest of the time I get really curteous and expert assistance. I’m eagerly awating my next trouble shooting session…

  55. ATLien

    Dmingo,

When you say “Yeah just use the other connection i wasn’t willing to risk being charged so i don’t use it. ” Do you mean Sprint Connect Manager or the *cough* “other” one….

  56. dailylama:

Please contact me at sprintsucks (_at_) mustbme.com. Until I put another user in contact with Sprint a couple days ago, they claimed I was the only one having the problem.

The problem, according to Sprint, is a bad A920 profile in their network (not your/my Vision profile). They now admit there is a problem, and also that there are not many people (yet) using Sprint phones as modems.

Sprint is swapping my A920 out with a LG VX-550 (Sprint calls it a Fusion or something like that) , which they’ve already shipped and claim won’t have a problem in phone as modem use.

Also, calling Vision ATS directly at 866-818-1944 gets you around of most of the on-hold time.

Sprint ATS monitors forums at sprintusers.com, where I’m posting what you’ve posted here so they’ll see it.

    1. How to use your phone as modem
call customer care or your local store and ask them for a phone as modem plan which is $39.99 this is a “power vision plan with phone as modem.” Once that is added you then update your profile with your phone down load the connection manager and your good to go.
    2. How to manage your phone, ie phone book, pictures and mp3
To manage your phone book the best software I can find is from “datapiolet.com”
To manage your pictures and mp3 you HAVE to have a sandisk reader not sure what that is google it.

    GLORY!!!!!

This may have already been posted up here, but after HOURS I have found a way to get MP3’s to play as ringtones under My Content on the phone.
My boyfriend got one yesterday and it has become my personal mission.

SO! FOr those interested, have a go….
    1. Cut MP3 of your choice into a 20-30 second clip (you can download a freeware MP3 cutter for this. The one I use is easy as pie. And you can pick your favourite part of the song! Genuis)

    2. Import said clip into iTunes and convert to AAC format.

    3. Go to this site: http://www.thephonemall.net/uploader/index.php
Browse to converted clip and click Upload file.

    4. WAP browse to the site given after successful uploading. Enter jumpcode provided. Hey presto!!! All done!!

The quality is amazing. I’m feeling very happy with myself and wanted to share the love.

Oh, a couple of points. I have had problems with files over 500kb in size, and I dont think there are any restrictions on service providers etc. I live in New Zealand and it still worked. I’m in shock a little about that, truth be told

  59. allan

where do I get my fld serv code?

(to enter in Menu –> settings–>display–> press ‘0′)

it keeps telling me that the one i enter in is an invalid lock code.

  60. Alex

    I have a mac G-5 with Tiger Osx-10.
I just wanted to know if i can just go into itunes with my phone and import song onto it.

    Tag my e-mail back.

    =>

I mean the Manual one that you can make bye using the new connection manager. I use #777 without a username and password and it works for sure
i’ve done it on six phones and also works on that Razor looking Sprint phone just the same. The steps to making a connection with Windows XP after you install the drivers are as follows. 1. Open up My Network places. 2. Click View my network connections on the left side. 3. click Create new connection. 4. Click next when the box comes up. 5. Click on Connect to the Internet then next 6. Click Setup connection Manually then next. 7. Click Use Dial-up Modem then next. 8. Choose your modem which is Samsung CDMA. 9. make a connection name. 10. make it dial #777. 11. Leave username and password empty. 12. Connect using the connection you made which can be found in my network places under connections and voila it should work.

  62. rji2goleez

DMingo - thanks for this. Works like a charm. Speed is much better than a modem. I had 230kpbs and with a signal that was only one or two bars.

  63. Jetdriver

    DMingo, you’re a ganious! Thanks.

  64. Jetdriver

Oops! That was supposed to be genious! Thanks again! :)

  65. allan

i have a new idol. his name is DMingo. thanks!!! hopefully this will always be around, its very handy when on the road.

  66. Sunny

    Hi,
I had a quesiton for DMingo or allan because you had the same problem

When i go to display and press 0 I put in the password which was given by you but it didn’t work. (040793) Am i doing something wrong or is the password different?

  67. Sunny

By the way I have a samsung a 920 if that changes anything and I live in Canada. My service provider is Bell Canada

  68. Tom

Okay I’ve had my Samsung a920 for over half a year now and in like the second week of purchasing the phone, the Transflash card was pretty much unusable and became corrupt from me adding bad files to it I guess. So I went to the store and replaced the 32mb transflash card… same thing happened when I was trying to add mp3s. Now my card is in the same situation as it was before. My PC (Windows XP) cannot reformat the card, it says “Windows was unable to format the disk” or something like that when I try. So I can’t access via my computer and my phone itself doesn’t even recognize the card is in place. I can’t access the card and neither my phone nor my computer can reformat the card. I’ve been looking for an answer for a long time now and it seems I’m the only one with this problem. Plz help thanks

  69. allan

    hey sunny,

i had the same problem, i couldn’t get that lock code to work. but what i did was install the drivers for the phone to xp, so when i plug in the cable to my laptop it automatically recognizes it as a modem. from there i followed dmingos instructions minus the entering of that code. i set the dial number to #777 and left password and username empty. and it works. however, i’ll see what happens when i get my bill. hopefully. hopefully it doesn’t charge me. i’m with Bell as well and am in Canada. hope that helps.

  70. Sunny

Where do I get the drivers from? Does my laptop need to have wireless internet service?

  71. Sunny

I also have another question for allan. Do you use rumkin to upload files to your phone? Also do I have to use a laptop or can I also use a normal computer?

  72. YinYang

    DMingo,
You are the man…nothing else to say here…I worship you!

  73. allan

sunny, there should be a link at the top of this page for the sprint connection tool. drivers should be in there, but don’t use the sprint connection thing to connect. use the windows connection. just follow DMingo’s instructions after you download the sprint package. you can use a laptop or a desktop.

  74. Mamamia123

    yo
So how much memory is on the phone for MP3 files? is is greater then 128 MB?

  75. Sunny

    Thanks allan
Leave a message here when you find out if you were charged or not.

  76. allan

i will, lol, i have no idea if i’ll be charged. i know when i used the sprint connection manager i was…here.s hoping i’m not after using DMingo’s method. because i’ve used it quite a bit this month, lol

  77. Sunny

Hopefully you don’t get charged…becuase it would be pretty cool to get some custom ringtones on our phones. Do you use rumkin to upload the ringtones and images? What program do you use to cut down the length of a song to make it a ringtone? If this works out it’s gonna be great.

  78. amber

I made a ringtone myself by cutting it down and uploading it but when i downloaded it to my phone it took 422kb … So does anyone know how i could make a ringtone that dont take up sooo much space???? can anyone help???? please

  79. Sunny

hi amber..i actually don’t know how to make it take up so much space..sorry. I had a question. What program did you use to cut the the ringtone??

  80. Ashish

    AMBER:

When you create and save the file, change the bit rate to the lowest rate ( I think I did 32 bit). You might have to look for these options when you export or save the file.

    Hope it helps.

  81. Sunny

    hey allan
i was wondering if u got ure bill yet.

  82. Nathanael

this has nothing to with modem setup, this is to answer everybody’s questions on HOW TO USE THE MP3 FEATURES AND RINGTONES ON A SAMSUNG A920:

    1) First and formost: do not use the internet on your new phone for anything, including downloading ringtones, msn, surfing, until you purchase an unlimited browser feature (from Bell Mobility it’s $7 or $5 for business plans) from your provider. Bell charges $0.05/kb for everything, so if i downloaded as much on my phone last month as i did on my computer (60 gigabytes total bandwidth), that would result in my cell phone bill being $3,000,040 +tax. that’s THREE MILLION dollars for one month. Ironically, Bell did screw up in August and they did charge me for my usage, despite having an Unlimited Plan - $161 they owe me back. so make sure you do that.

    2) TO PUT MUSIC ON YOUR SAMSUNG A920 MP3 PHONE: don’t download mp3s for $2.50 each! somehow (ebay, computer store, walmart, etc) buy a 512mb or 1gb Transflash (micro sd) card (i use 1gb i got on ebay for $45), and a cheap Card Reader for $10-$20 if you don’t already have one. Put the card in the little black adapter you got with the phone, and plug the adapter and card into the card reader in the SD slot, which is already in your comp. your computer should automatically recognize it as a new drive (if not, you might need drivers for the card reader). create a folder on the card called Media. put your mp3s in there. stick it back in your phone and run media player, and you’re good to go. note: files can’t be protected wma files. To play videos: i’ve never done it, so i’m just guessing - convert videos you have to 3gp files. recommended software i see is ImToo.com, and stick them in your Media folder most likely. I’m gunna get Crank on my phone in a few hours.

    3) RINGTONES ON A920: Not as easy as i wanted. download a nice program called WavePad, open the mp3 you want and crop it down to a small file (i think it has to be less than 1mb) and ‘Save As’ as an .m4a file. Then go to the Rumkin Uploader website - http://www.rumkin.com/tools/sprint/ and use that to upload your file to your phone. It’ll text you a “jumpcode”. to to the text, hit Options, Go, and go to the URL it gives you. that’ll download your phone and you’re done. tones of fun. scuse the pun.

Hope this helps you guys who are just learning how to use this excellent phone, as i was a few weeks ago.

  83. allan

hey sunny, haven’t got the bill yet. should be any day now. but i’ll let you know. i did get charged using the sprint connection manager thing, so i hope dmingo’s #777 connection will be better. If not…I’m lookin’ at a huge…one, lol. :(

  84. Squee

i am using my samsung a920 for my internet since i live in the middle of nowhere. i am on it as we speak. i was wondering if anyone here knows how to get it to work with linux so i can hook it up to my linux comp and connect to the internet from it. i currently have a crossover cable between my linux comp and my laptop which has xp pro. the linux os i am using is Mandriva which is a really great linux. if anyone has any ideas on howto setup my connection with Mandriva so i can use my phone as the modem please email me at magicsquee@yahoo.com. currently to access the internet with my linux comp i have my internet on my laptop shared.

btw i found a way to have the phone charging and be on the internet at the same time. what i did was take the usb cable that came with it and take out the 2 phillips screws on the phone end and pull off the shield. then i wrapped the wires with electrical tape so they arent exposed. then i just hooked up my charger into my phone and then took the data cable and hooked it into my phone. i then taped them together so that the charger is the one that holds the data cable in. (when you take the shield off the connector you remove the clips that hold it into the phone but it still works.) i have used this setup for awhile now and i have had no problems with it. i love this phone. it was way under priced.

  85. allan

Sunny!!! Don’t do it!! Bell counts your usage…at 15.00 cdn per MB. I didn’t download anything on my laptop, I just used it for browsing, and my bill came today…i’m looking at 1100.00 for usage for a month. Unless you’re viewing text only pages…it’s gonna cost an arm and a leg. DON’T DO IT!! And if you do, keep track of your usage. I used about 70MB in a month. It’s still handy to have…but man alive…keep track.

  86. Dmingo

R u sure u went into ur Field service option with the code i gave you and disabled the NA1 and put it to off? I’ve done this to 10 phones which all my friends have and until this day it works and nobody has gotten charged period.

  87. Dmingo

the field service code is : 040793 and it has worked on the a920 and the other razor style sprint phone i’m not sure of the model

  88. Phantom

    Dmingo,

Allan and I are both in Canada using Bell Mobility, when we try to enter the Field Service Unlock code, it tells us it’s invalid.

    Thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks

  89. Squee

Dmingo do you know how to get it to work with linux?

  90. Phantom

Bell Field Service Code for A920 is 192147

  91. allan

thanks phantom and dmingo! yeah, it’s a minor setback, lol, i can pay it off, just a little bit of a shocker. phantom, how’d you get the bell code? either way…we’ll find out next month lmao thanks guys

  92. allan

mine was already set to OFF. I just need to clarify, I go into toggle NA1 and select modem off? Phantom you want to try it this time and post in a month, lol? My phone was already set on off…

  93. Squee

anyone know the code for sprint? also where do i get the software for that charging usb data cable?

  94. Squee

anyone have the usb data suite cd or software i can get from them? btw even living out in the boondocks i am finally getting an evdo tower. for awhile i was just getting the regular tower and could download at 15kbps but now im getting the full speed. its great.

  95. RuneCaaster

Is there any way to play music (mp3) without having a data package?

I have had this phone put on my company plan when I started a new job (my hardware, company plan) only they will not cover a data package. I got burned the first month I owned this phone with the personal plan I had did not include a data plan. I was listening to music that I copied to the phone using the transflash card. It was only after I received a $160 bill that I was informed that the phone makes a connection to the internet (Musicstore) even if you are listening to music storeed on the phone.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  96. Squee

i never have that problem. you might have put it in the wrong folder. if i remember correctly it goes in the media folder.

  97. Kishman

This is for DMingo, Allan and Phantom…

Sorry for the noob question, but where are you guys?!

I mean, where do you go for those options?
My laptop is xP Home… is it in the network connection properties?
could one of you please give instructions… I’m sorry, but I looked in abunch of places, and I can’t find what you’re talking about…

I actually did get the internet stuff to work, I created a new connection and all, and the internet worked fine with full speed… however, I didn’t do anything about the NA1 or the modem options or the code you enter… I really don’t want this charging on my bill… I don’t know where to go to access those options…
    can you please help?

    Thanks in advance

  98. Kishman

Oh, BTW… I’m also with Bell Mobility… sorry about that

  99. dc

I just downloaded the sprint pcs manager…if i connect my phone to the comp and go online….is there a charge?

  100. dc

i forgot to add that i use bell for my phone and my plan includes free internet connection on my phone

  101. Jolly Ranger

Im with Aliant (Bell?) in Canada and they charge $5/mth for unlimited web use on the cellphone, but if you want to use the phone as a modem for your laptop, its $15/megabyte. Thats pretty insane when you think about it. Apparently there is a way to make it so they think you are using the cellphone internet while actually using it for laptop access. I’ll have to see how that goes… One thing that is really frustrating me though is the crippled BT file transfer since the only way to get media onto the phone is through the flash card. Even if I could use the USB cable I’d be a littler happier, but there’s nothing. If anyone has any idea how to fix these problems, post the solutions here.
    Thanks

  102. RoyceMan...

Hey you guys just wanted to THANK YOU for posting this I just got the A920 for sprint on eBay and having fun with it The phone as a modem is A ok I don’t think you should have to pay extra when you already have internets on your phone (yes I called it internets I have my reason) you are A god send my friends the phone up loader too. THANK YOU ALL…

  103. Johhny

HOW DO YOU TRANSFER PICTURES FROM YOUR PHONE TO YOUR COMPUTER?

    1) many mentioned above about a flash/reader card. Do I use that memory card that came with the phone and then transfer everything from that memory card to my pc? How do I do that? By purchasing a reader card? Does this reader card attach itself to a USB adapter and then attach it to the USB Port?
    2) what other gadgets do I need to purchase in order for this to work? If so, the cost involved?

    Thanks

  104. Kishman

well… what I use is indeed a card reader… I believe I paied like $30 or so (CAD)… if you have that, that should be all you need… a normal size SD card (I dunno what else to call it) should come with it that you can slip your micro into, then into the reader. It’s simple from there… or you can read the above posts for other information.
Oh, the reader is indeed USB… err… I don’t know if that makes sense… but hopefully you get it… if you have xP (which you should have at this time… or atleast 2000), then the drivers should install themself… simple as that…

    If you want an alternative…
well, there’s always friends (you do have friends, right?)…
or even if you have a camera that supports micro SD… plug your card into that, and plug that into your comp.

umm, there’s prob. other alternatives… I can’t think of any at the moment…
    hope I helped

  105. Kishman

Ok, scratch my previous post abit back… I did actually get the access code screen thing. Weird enough, when I followed DMingo’s instruction the first time, I was lost… but I decided to try it again recently, and I got in.
Now, just like Allan said, mine was off to begin with too.
When I tried using the EV-DO access on my laptop, it worked fine, and I’m using online billing. I don’t even see it on the list, unless I have to wait abit… I’ll post in if anything changes.

    Thanks DMingo, Allan, and Phantom

  106. allan

let me know if it shows up. i may try again, because i sure do miss the wireless access…but i ain’t about to get hit again by another huge bill, lol

  107. anton671

Does anyone know if there is a way for me to play my mp3’s on the a920 without having to connect to the music store online? I want to get rid of the internet function on my a920 but I noticed that to play the mp3’s on my microSD i still have to connect to the music store online. please help if anyone has any ideas thanks

    Anton

  108. anton671

please disregard my previous question I figured it out thanks a bunch to Nathanael’s post :

    2) TO PUT MUSIC ON YOUR SAMSUNG A920 MP3 PHONE: don’t download mp3s for $2.50 each! somehow (ebay, computer store, walmart, etc) buy a 512mb or 1gb Transflash (micro sd) card (i use 1gb i got on ebay for $45), and a cheap Card Reader for $10-$20 if you don’t already have one. Glad someone finally noticed i wrote that!

  110. allan

kishman, any details on how your billing went? really curious to see, lol, i just got the remainder of my bill…my mistake has officially cost me about 2Gs :D

  111. Kishman

    2G’S?!?!??!?!

holy crap man… somthing aint right…
Well, still nothin on the online account so far… but I haven’t recieved my bill through mail yet

wow… thats crazy… I’ll be sure to post as soon as I know man…

  112. Bryan

I used to use a similar method on my old VZW phone but I’ve never tried anything on any of my sprint phones. Do I even need a Vision plan (not the phone as modem but a basic plan)?

  113. Greg

Hey does anyone know if its possible to play games from the trans flash card? Also i put a .jpg on the card and the phone recognizes that there is something there but when i go to the picture it just shows a red “X” through it, so i guess it knows there is a .jp there but cant read it. Any ideas? Also is it safe to say that if you are with Bell there is no way that you can use your phone as a moded without paying more than the 5$ unlimited data for browsing on the phone?

Thanx so much any answers will be appreciated
    -Greg

  114. Greg

I found on another site how to get ur phone to work as a moded free if u have unlimited data on ur phone
“All you have to do is setup a dialup connection on your pc no username no pass and dial the number #777 including the #. Phone will logon and bam your surfing the net no extra plan no 40$ a month data plan etc” and to get the fastest service “about using evdo on your phone while using it as a modem… The settings for this are located in a hidden menu… Hit menu then click settings click display then hit zero (hidden menu) it’ll say “field serv” with a lock. Enter 040793 and go to hdr/1x selection and change it to evdo only. Your phone will now function only in evdo mode. To change it back go through the same process then change the setting to hybrid mode. ”

Hope this works havent tried it yet

  115. Bryan

Greg I was having the same problem. I came up with a solution finally, (albeit not the best and I hope someone has a better one) I had to use my computer and an Imaging Application (Adobe Photoshop) to convert the pictures. Unfortunately, I ended making the pictures almost 10x their original size. I had to make a pic that was 29K into a pic 290K, but when finished the pic worked perfectly on my phone. Greg, not sure how your problem came about but mine came from trying to use pictures from a Samsung T609 on the Samsung A920.

  116. Greg

My problem arose when i just tried to put pictures from my regular camera onto my phone using the memory card.

  117. tobo

    DMingo and others -
i also have a samsung a920, which i purchased when told by the sales person in the store, confirmed by the sprint sales rep, that the powervision pack together with the included usb data cable would be enough to use the phone as modem. no mention of the phone-as-modem data pack for extra money until i called tech support because i could not get the modem recognized by my pc.

i’m willing to try the #777 option, but how do i get the computer to recognize the phone if i’m not using the sprint pcs connection manager? i have not been able to locate a driver, and windows xp requires one to set up the hardware.

    any help would be appreciated.

  118. neil

I have the 1 gig memory card in my phone and when I play my mp3s on my phone they often will pause for a few seconds while playing

  119. Rog

I just got an A920 and am learning to use it.

Does anyone know if there is some software management tools that allow you to access the photos, MP3s,calendar, contacts, and other things though a USB cable to PC?

I purchased a Mobile Phone Managemnt tool that includes a USB cable made by http://www.mobileaction.com. This software only allows access to contacts and sychronization of contacts only. It doesn’t seem to work perfectly, it often puts peoples home numbers from outlook in the phone as cell numbers. On some of the other phones like A900 and A940 it does more like picture and music. It does have the capability of charging throught the USB cable that comes with the software. I purchased it online throught http://www.cellphoneshop.net. They have other reasonably priced accessories.

I haven’t tried it as a modem yet.

I found transflash fairly reasonably priced through http://www.geeks.com.

If anyone knows some better file management software for the A920 please post.

  120. Kishman

    Allan…

    Umm… yeah, I dunno… I guess Canadians are screwed for this plan…

my bill is up to $700…

if anyone finds a way (and you’re will Bell Canada), do tell please…

  121. Allan

ouch kishman…i feel your pain…only a bit more, lol

i’ve got half of mine paid off now. pay the remain thousand this month (nov)…

it sure is a big hit…hopefully someone can figure it out.

  122. tony

kk so i got this phone today.. and i was messing around.. nd from what I’ve read,

    1) bell screwed me over because that USB cable is pretty much worthless since I need an SD reader or whatever that will cost me about 20$, ok, that’s fine.

    2) i realised like 90% of my actions on that phone lead me to connecting to the browser.. and I accessed the music store to see I get 1 free song, alright, no problem there either.. I download a song, and I’ve listened to it maybe 2-3 times already.. then I read on the site that it’s 0.05$ per KB, meaning an average song is like 1000kb meaning already I’m up to 50$? plus the 3times I listened to the song, plus the screwing around I did with listening to song previews.. damm.. I’m looking at about how much here? :S

and have I got this all right?

  123. Allan

pretty much. the USB cable is mainly for using the phone as a modem, not as a method of data transfer (music/vids/pics)

as for the internet usage…if you plan to use the phone to its capability (TV/music) you might want to invest in the $5 / month for unlimited internet ON your phone. and its pretty useful, i get to catch my news, highlights, etc on the phone, as well as checking email and stuff. but i wouldn’t dare use it without the unlimited internet. this unlimited usuage does not pertain to using your phone as a modem (connecting it to your pc). heh heh, as kishman and I found out the hard way.

  124. John

Hi, I have downloaded a lot of songs from ITunes and most have turned out to be AAC format… I got them downloaded onto my card but some of them I found out were protected and I can’t play them. They cannot be converted to mp3. Does anyone know how I can play them on my phone. Or is there a way to make my phone itunes enabled. I have the A920…

    Thanks

  125. Greg

Guys there is a way to use cable for transfer of files using qpst

  126. neil

    What is qpst?

  127. Greg

Its a software for browsig your phone’s OS and file infrastructure. Just search it in google use the EFS explorer component of it. If you want tutorials of exactly how and where to get it and how to use it go to http://www.3ginferno.com thats how i figured it out, the mod there is extremely nice and helpful

  128. isaac bonn

At the Samsung site you can download software that will back up your contacts via the usb cable to your computer. I am wondering if anybody knows of a way to make custom ringtones that i can put on my flash card via my Windows Xp machine insead of having then sent to my phone via the internet. I am using the data cable as a modem but its not charging while its pluged in the USB i have the cable Samsung USB Data Cable (charging) - PCB113UBEB/STD but it dosn’t charge anyone knows what might be the problem

  131. Allan

the cable is only used for transfer, in order to charge and use it as a modem, you will have to buy another cable designed for both charge and transfer.

    Kurtis…
I belive useing the same method with the ringtones at that rumkin site, will work….
I haven’t tried it, so don’t take my word, I’m just shootin out ideas…

I’m guessin… if you can get a game that this phone supports, you can upload it to that site, an d/l through your cell… once again, I don’t know if it’ll work… but in my head, it makes sense… (but it’s all messed up in my head)

As for Allan… Bell threatened me that they’ll ’suspend’ my phone if I don’t pay the MINUMUM $632 by friday (which was the 1st)… lucky for me… my brother sorta bailed me out… however, he says that my bill is still higher than his… I should actually look at my bill…
I hope these bastards aren’t screwin me over on this…

    Hi,

I just bought the Samsung a920 & I am with Bell. Now when playing music do you get charged for playin’ it through the media player ? ’cause since the Music Store is considered online.. Is the media player as well.. & will I get charged for Browsing Charges ?

    That’s all =]

    hi kori,

unless you plan to buy the 5$ / month unlimited ‘phone’ internet (not MODEM, lol) option, i wouldn’t use it. you’ll get more out of your phone if you do have the unlimited internet. lets you check your email, watch TV,etc. but if you don’t plan on using the phones services, in specific, the music downloading, you’re better off just transferring files, (avi, mp3, etc) to your flash card and using the media player to play your files. The online music player can get pricey if you don’t have unlimited internet. example: 1 song download from bonfire is about 1 mb. bell charges (in canada) 15.00 per mb. Plus the cost of the song. hope this helps.

Has anyone in the US tried Dmingos tecnique? I plan to try it for a brief test on ym laptop, then check my online bill to see how it is affected (or not) before using it more.

BTW, I have the Sprint unimited power vision, use Rumkin to d/l things to my phone (images/apps/games) and the SD card to play mp3s - never an additional charge.

BTW, highly recommend mini opera for this phone, as you then get full internet (on the phone, at least).

hi guys, i just bought the samsung a920 (limited edition) yesterday… and i want to start transfering my mp3 files from my computer to my phone.. but i dont have the SD slot on my computer.. so i was wondering if i could just use a digital camera to run the files through??

    HOLLY

  138. No you’ll need an SD card adapter of some type. From what I know, it is not possible to use your camera to get files on to the SD card for use.

  139. Neil

Anybody have any luck in the U.S. with Dmingo’s tecnique. We don’t use Bell here in the U.S. What code would we use in Dmingo’s instructions?
    Thanks y’all

    Hey everybody,
I just bought a new hp laptop with Windows XP Media Center. I have the samsung A920 also. I first tryed the sprint connection manager thing as per instructions and it advised me that I had to connect my phone. In other words it wasn’t recognizing it. This I found was a good thing because I later found that you will be charged. I then tryed it the way DMINGO explained and VOILA! Internet connected at 230k! I still don’t know if I’ll get charged for it so I’m crossing my fingers. My NA1 is toggled off, I dial up #777, I leave the username and password fields empty. I still don’t know though if they can get my phone’s IP address while using it as a modem. I do have an unlimited internet plan(don’t think this really matters) and I am on Sprint in Ohio, U.S. The unlock code DMINGO gave me worked so I’m imagining that it woldn’t have worked if it was wrong. The point of this exercise is to get onto the net using the back door method without getting charged but it still has to read some sort of IP address when it accesses the gateway server…. I’ll keep you posted when I get my bill.

Holly, actually… yeah, you could be able to use your digi cam.

As long as it has an SD slot in it, and you can connect it to your comp, and access the contents in the SD slot… then you can easily transfer your music and what not into it. Just make sure it’s in the right folder. I think the phone automatically creates the appropriate folder when you first access the media player.

    Hope that helps.
