Windows Drivers for Intel Mac

Posted in Apple, Tech by Dan at 8:14 am

So, yesterday we revealed (thanks to our donation to OnMac) how to install Windows XP on an Intel Mac. The process was easy, smooth - and quite efficient!

However after the install, there were obviously drivers missing from the Win XP install… Listed below are sopme drivers you may want to install to get you Intel Mac humming.

iMac 17″ iMac 20″ Mac Mini MacBook MacBook Pro

Ethernet Click Click Click Click Click
Bluetooth None None None None None

1: Once installed, right-click the device in device manager and manually choose a driver to install. Click have disk and point to C:\drivers\win\wllanath\winxp_2k, then select the driver: 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adaptor. Some users have reported that the MBP drivers have issues connecting to certain brands of wireless routers. These problems did not occur when the same system was booted into OSX.

2: To improve interm performance disable Hardware Acceleration in the advanced Display Properties settings.

3: Confirmed working, but only through headphone/line out port. No internal speakers. [via]

Hmm.. a MacBook? Didn’t know it was released already

  2. wow. i have to admit i am finally completely jealous of intel osx users. in he back of my mind i was still telling myself “oh who cares… i bet the drivers are missing”… now i’m seeing this list of drivers?! dammit!

I saw yesterday in the store their selling intel Mac mini’s at costco. what’s up with that?

  4. I saw iMac G5’s at Costco…I assumed that Apple were moving them out. But if they have Intel Mini’s, it appears as though Apple is just trying to find more peeps to switch.

Can someone tell me why they would want XP and OSX on one computer? I mean, I get the general gist of it…but realistically? Also, can you have both booted and somehow switch between OS’s with a hot key? (I know its probably too early to answer that)

Great, so i will looking forward to a new mac book pro. :-)

Hi Chuck. The only (logical) reason to have both OS’s on one machine that I can think of has to do with web designers. They would now be able check their work with all browsers to make sure it looks good. Also this is good for Apple because the first question newbies ask before switching to a Mac is “Can I run my PC programs on a Mac?” and now you can tell them YES, although I’d much rather instead run OS X on a PC :)

    Links are broken

I’m an engineer, and there are plenty of applications that run on Windows PCs only. Like Code Composer Studio for DSP design, for example. Some hardware development kits still rely on parallel ports for download/debug, thus requiring a desktop PC. HOWEVER, those are starting to transition to USB.

SO, I would love to be able to dual boot OSX + Windows! My wife has a Powerbook G4.

The links for Windows drivers are dead .-…. This sucks nig time!!!!!!

there are not any video drivers?? please, if someone knows where can i find this drivers…please, report it

  11. There are a couple of reasons why you would want XP on the intelMacs. I for one needed to finish a video in adobe premiere pro 2 for a wedding. It was taking my Dell laptop (3.4GHz 1.0GB RAM) 45 minutes to compile the video. I installed XP and Adobe Premiere Pro 2 on my MacBook Pro and it takes less than half the time to compile the video. I didn’t want to convert the entire video over to Final Cut Pro since i had most of it done in Premiere. There are a couploe of good applications of XP. I’d say… Pick your operating system based of efficiency and need. Doesn’t matter what OS you use if it’s the best for the application at hand.

  12. Hi

Wehave just got the new MacBooks and its the most difficult when it comes to loading Windows XP. XP has to crash at least 3 times before we can get it right. We realised that XP installs only if you start from a cold start (after 3 hours from the last boot)!

Further the following drivers are required since the drivers burnt by Boot Camp do not support Windows on MacBook completely.

The following drivers are needed on Macbook

    1. Ethernet driver (the driver from this website works)
    2. Wi-Fi drivers
    3. Bluetooth
    4. Graphics drivers
    5. Sound drivers
    6. iSight drivers
    7. Remote drivers

If any one has any suggestions, please let me know

    Cheers

    Savio

There are no drivers for the iSight yet :(

As for the wireless networking adapter, you’ll either have an Atheros or (I think) Broadcom adapter in the Networking Adapters section.

I am also looking for the driver for iSight. Any luck?

  26. I am running WindowsXP only on my MacBook Pro. Format the HD with the utility that comes with your Mac to FAT32. Boot from youw XP CD. Install XP, convert to NFTS if you like. DRIVERS: The best way I have found to get the drivewrs you need is to make a driver disk with Boot Camp beta and then use it after you do your XP install to get all the drivers for your machine. Obviously this requires you to borrow a friends similar MacBook, or you can do all the work before you install XP. Time consuming, but it works well. Feel free to email me direct for advice.

One issue I have is that Bluetooth is very unreliable with the Mac KB and mouse. Drops it constantly…any suggestions are appreciated.

  29. I agree with Patrick who said :”The best way I have found to get the drivers you need is to make a driver disk with Boot Camp beta and then use it after you do your XP install to get all the drivers for your machine.” but I think Sarah already solved the issue… I hope
