Availabot online buddy notifier

Availabot is a physical representation of presence in Instant Messenger applications. Availabot plugs into your computer by USB, stands to attention when your chat buddy comes online, and falls down when they go away. It’s a presence-aware, peripheral-vision USB toy… and because the puppets are made in small numbers on a rapid-prototyping machine, it can look just like you.
I don’t care how useless some USB toys are, this one falls under the category of “I must have” for the sheer geek factor of the item. Think mood light. This little toy falls when specified buddies are offline and stand when they’re online. Cool right?

The next step is to integrate automatic voice chat. You press a button to prompt a speech session, and when they accept, you talk to the little guy (with a cleverly implemented microphone in the ears) and he talks back. Now THAT I’d buy.

Or, the little guy makes physical motions along with the speech.
